Preparing The Boat For Storage
Remove the bilge drain plug, if installed.
Thoroughly wash the fiberglass exterior, especially the antifouling portion of the bottom.
Remove as much marine growth as possible. Lightly wax the exterior fiberglass
components.
Remove all oxidation from the exterior hardware, and apply a light film of moisture-
displacing lubricant.
Remove the propellers and grease the propeller shafts using light waterproof grease.
Remove the batteries and store in a cool place. Clean using clear, clean water. Be sure
the batteries have sufficient water and clean terminals. Keep the batteries charged and safe
from freezing throughout the storage period.
Refer to Chapter 4, Electrical System, for information on the maintenance of the electrical
systems.
Coat all faucets and exposed electrical components in the cockpit with a protecting oil.
Clean out, totally drain and completely dry the fishboxes, sinks and livewells.
Clean the exterior upholstery with a good vinyl cleaner and dry thoroughly. Spray the
weather covers and boat upholstery with a spray disinfectant. Enclosed areas such as the
refrigerator, shower basin, storage locker areas, etc. should also be sprayed with this
disinfectant.
Thoroughly clean the interior of the boat. Vacuum all carpets and dry clean drapes and
upholstery.
Remove as many cushions and open as many locker doors as possible. Leaving as many
of these areas open as possible will improve the boat’s ventilation during the storage
period.
14.2 Winterizing
Freshwater System
The entire freshwater system must be completely drained. Disconnect all hoses, check valves,
etc. and blow all the water from the system. Make sure the water heater and freshwater tank
are completely drained. Use only very low air pressure when doing this to prevent possible
system damage. Because of the check valve mechanism built in the pump, blowing the lines
